Mavs Trainer on Team USA's Medical Team

Team's head trainer again working with Olympic team

When the Olympics start in just 22 days, the Dallas Mavericks' head athletic trainer will be there.

Casey Smith will serve on the medical team for the USA men's national team, just as he did in the Beijing Olympics.

"It's a great honor, and it's a good chance to interact with athletes literally at the highest level," he said.

Smith will help keep the best of the best healthy -- the players' respective team owners are counting on it.

"Yeah, communication is one of our biggest roles, because they have a very significant, vested interest in these guys, so it's very important for us to communicate with them and maybe say everything they're reading or hearing isn't true and that they can get actual information from us," he said.

Smith also worked with the USA basketball team in Athens in 2004.
