The Dallas Mavericks have signed free agent forward-center Sean Williams, a Texas native who played on their D-League team last season.

The NBA champions announced the signing Wednesday.

Williams was originally a first-round pick in 2007 by New Jersey. He spent three seasons with the Nets, averaging 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 126 games.

Williams played last season for the Texas Legends, where he was one of the D-League's top defensive players. The 6-foot-10 post averaged 14.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks in 49 games for the Legends.

Williams was born in Arlington, Texas, and played at Mansfield High School before going to Boston College.
