A man accused of killing an 11-month-old girl in Cedar Park, near Austin, has agreed to a plea deal that would see him spend 30 years in prison.
Thirty-four-year-old Jacob Salas pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily harm. Authorities say Orion Hamilton died in October after Salas crushed her head between his knee and the floor.
The girl had been in the care of Child Protective Services since shortly after she was born with methamphetamine in her system, and she was eventually sent to live with her step-aunt.
Salas was not allowed to be around the girl because CPS had determined he medically neglected one of his children. The girl's aunt admitted she lied about Salas living with her.
The child protection agency has since acknowledged that it made mistakes in Hamilton's case.
