Man Jumps Airport Fence, Tries to Catch Flight to Texas

A man accused of jumping a fence at Charlotte Douglas International Airport trying to get onto a flight to Texas has been arrested.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said 36-year-old Jovany Castillo Lugo told authorities he climbed the fence to get away from someone who had shot at him inside the airport concourse. But authorities said in a statement that they determined no one shot at Lugo.

Police said Lugo was found with a box cutter in his possession.

Police said a female companion told them she and Lugo walked around the airport perimeter before he jumped the fence.

Lugo is in the Mecklenburg County jail on charges of trespassing on airport property and carrying a concealed weapon. It's not known if he has an attorney.
