Man Gets 40 Years in South Texas Drugs, Guns Case

A San Antonio gang member has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for pushing crack cocaine and trying to smuggle guns to a Mexican drug cartel.

Federal prosecutors say 25-year-old Arnoldo Lopez was sentenced Wednesday on drug and firearms counts.

San Antonio police in October 2012 arrested Lopez and confiscated drugs, assault rifles and other guns. He pleaded guilty last September.

Lopez received to 35 years in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. He was sentenced to five additional years for possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

In another case, Lopez received five years in prison on six separate charges of making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. Those prison terms will run concurrent with the original case.
