Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that he was notified at about 8:30 a.m. that a man who fired on Limestone County Sheriff's Deputies was believed to be headed north toward Navarro County.

Moments later, he was notified that the man was believed to have also robbed a gas station in Wortham, just south of Navarro County in Freestone County. In Freestone County, investigators said the man abandoned his vehicle and stole a pickup truck.

The man was soon spotted driving through a construction zone along Interstate 45 in Navarro County, pointing a handgun at construction workers in their vehicles, Tanner said.

While driving through the construction zone, the truck became disabled at about 9 a.m. with at least one flat tire near Mile Marker 220.

From Chopper 5, the man could be seen freely walking around the pickup truck, getting in and out of the vehicle while drinking something from a can. The man was visibly waving his arms and gesturing while talking with police officers and deputies.
