Man Arrested in Gainesville in Connection With Fort Worth Shooting That Left Clerk Dead

A man who was driving to Gainesville was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting of a convenience store clerk that happened earlier in the day in Fort Worth, police said.

Police responded to a shooting call about 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 4600 block of Benbrook Highway. Police say the man robbed the store and shot the victim, who was identified as Aszal Barhai, 51, of Hurst.

Detectives were able to find the man they suspected of the shooting as he approached Gainseville Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers took the man into custody while he was driving on Interstate 35 in Gainesville and found he had a prior outstanding warrant for his arrest, police said.

A second warrant was issued for his arrest by the Fort Worth Police Department on a capital murder charge.

The man was booked on both charges and is being held on a $100,000 bond. His name has not been released.
