One of three victims that firefighters rescued from a fire at an apartment complex Sunday has died, the Mesquite Fire Department said.
The fire at the Hills of Palos Verdes complex left Leandro Esteban Flores, his girlfriend and their 3-month-old child in critical condition after they were rescued from their third-floor residence. Flores died from his injuries on Tuesday.
Authorities said the two-alarm blaze spread through 22 units.
Investigators said preliminary investigations have found that a Christmas tree was accidentally knocked over into a burning fireplace on the first floor. The residents of the apartment were in the process of putting away their holiday decorations, investigators said.
