Man Arrested After Standoff Inside Dallas Omni Hotel

A man armed with a gun is in police custody after officers said he barricaded himself in downtown Dallas hotel Saturday afternoon. The standoff led to the evacuation of some hotel guests at the Omni Dallas Hotel but most guests and employees were not affected.

Police were called to the hotel around 1:00 p.m. Saturday after a hotel guest entered a room shared with another guest.

Officers said a man was lying on the bed with a gun by his side. He reportedly told his friend that this was the last time he would see him alive. The friend left the room to call security.

After police arrived, several attempts to contact the armed man were unsuccessful, and SWAT teams were called to the scene.

Hotel guests on the same floor as the armed man, as well as the floor above were evacuated. Guests on unaffected floors were allowed to stay in their rooms.

After about an hour, police said the armed man was arrested peacefully. There were no reports of injuries.

The man was held by police for a mental evaluation, but police did not release any information regarding charges against the man.  His name was also not released.

NBC 5's Tim Ciesco contributed to this report.
