A man was attacked while walking to a friend's house in Oak Lawn Thursday night, Dallas police say. [[352156151,C]]
Geoffrey Hubbard, a 25-year-old bartender, left work at the Tap House, went to have a drink with friends and then was walking to a friend's house when he was assaulted in the 3200 block of Knight Street. He rolled under a nearby SUV to stop the attack.
"In this particular case the victim was so fortunate that he had the presence, in the middle of an attack, to roll under a car," Resource Center Communication Director Rafael McDonnell said.
"I just heard literally blood curdling screams," said Mark Jameson, who lives near the crime scene. "The screams were just deafening. I thought maybe somebody was hit by a car."
Police said an officer patrolling the area stopped at the scene at 11:13 p.m.
"Dallas police have been very good about what they've done in the neighborhood, but, at the same time, these bad guys seem to be a step ahead of them," McDonnell said.
Hubbard was transported to Baylor University Medical Center. He told NBC 5 that he has a skull fracture.
"He’s very warm," said Hubbard's co-worker Michael Tijerina. "He has a lot of regulars that come to see him. He interacts with them, hangs out with them."

The incident is the latest in a series of similar attacks in the area.
In addition to the $5,000 reward offered by Crime Stoppers, the North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce pledged another $5,000, making the total reward $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible.
"These are the lowest of the low," McDonnell said. "You're going to get caught. You will slip up. And you will do the punishment. And we're going to hold you to it."
A GoFundMe account has been established to help Hubbard pay for his medical expenses.
A rally organized by Light Up Oak Lawn members is planned for Sunday night outside Dallas Police Headquarters
