Man Accused of Flashing BB Gun at School Bus Stop: Police

White Settlement police say a man is under investigation after allegedly displaying a weapon at a school bus stop Friday morning.

Officers were called at about 7:40 a.m. to the 9000 block of Oels Street, and they soon located a man matching the description, about two blocks away.

The man was in possession of a black semiautomatic CO2-powered BB pistol, which had the orange tip removed that helps identify it as a real or fake weapon, police said.

The officers learned that the 23-year-old man had approached the bus stop while a student, who was a family member, was about to board a school bus. The man stood in front of the bus doors, blocking the student from getting onto the bus, and at one point the man allegedly pulled the weapon out of his pocket.

The school bus driver drove away, and no students were injured.

Police said a number of students on the bus witnessed the incident.

Police said they have been told by family members that the man has a mental illness, which may have contributed to this incident, and police said the man poses no further threat to the school or children.

The man, whose identity has not been released, is expected to be charged with terroristic threat – interfering with public transportation, a third-degree felony, police said.
