Man, 73, Fatally Shot Wife, Self: Fort Worth Police

Police said a man fatally shot his wife and them himself at a Fort Worth home overnight.

The couple's daughter found them dead in the bedroom of the home in the 5100 block of Shackleford Street at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. She went to check on them after not being able to reach her father Monday night.

"It's horrific," Fort Worth Police Department spokesman Steve Enright said. "I can't imagine how terrible it'd be to walk into a scene like that."

Officers responded to the daughter's call at about 7 a.m. Police said they think the 73-year-old husband killed his 76-year-old wife overnight before turning the gun on himself.

"It appears to be a murder-suicide," Enright said. "There is some word that the mother had been suffering from dementia and the father had been suffering from some kind of depression."

Police have not yet identified the couple or released a motive in the killings.

"Homicide investigators are on the scene," Enright said. "The circumstances and the reasons for this act are unknown at this time."

Fort Worth firefighters responded to the home at about 5 p.m. Monday after the wife fell out of bed.
