Lubbock Man Who Killed Parents Set to Die

A 43-year-old Lubbock man is facing execution for killing his parents, then opening a gas valve in their home that led to the place blowing up, fatally injuring his 89-year-old grandmother.

Evidence showed Michael Yowell was an ex-con and drug addict who became violent after his father caught him trying to steal his wallet. John Yowell was shot in the 1998 attack. His wife, Carol, was beaten and strangled with a lamp cord after her son's gun malfunctioned. The grandmother died two weeks later.

Yowell would be the 14th prisoner executed this year in Texas.

He's trying to get his lethal injection set for Wednesday evening in Huntsville delayed with a civil suit challenging the nature and acquisition of the drug pentobarbital Texas prison officials use for capital punishment.
