Fares at Dallas Love Field have been the lowest of the top 100 airports in the country, according to numbers released Wednesday by the federal government. The airport is the home base of discount carrier Southwest Airlines.
The report from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows fares across the country rose nearly 5 percent from the first quarter to the second quarter of 2008, during a time when airlines have been cutting flights to drive up fares and cover higher fuel costs.
Love Field had the lowest average fares in the nation, while travelers in Cincinnati paid the most.
Nationwide, the average domestic fare was $352 in the second quarter, and is the highest quarterly number for average fares in the 13 years the Bureau has collected data.
