Lockheed Martin Hires Hundreds For F-35 Program, Seeking More

Thousands of people from across the country made a trek to Fort Worth, hoping for a chance at landing a dream job at Lockheed Martin in the F-35 fighter jet program.

“I saw on Facebook that they were doing a big job fair,” Devin Smith of Justin, TX said.

Smith was one of the hundreds of people who got offers on the spot.

“I got a congratulations letter. I’m very excited about that,” Smith said.

This was the second in a series of hiring events for Lockheed Martin.

“In June, we hired just north of 600 and we expect to exceed that today,” Lockheed Martin spokesperson Ken Ross said.

The company is looking to fill 1,800 positions in the next several years.

“The F-35 fighter program is going to be going into full production. We’ve been building up the production line now it’s time to staff it up,” Ross said.

2,000 applicants preregistered for interviews and more than 1,000 showed up as walk-ins.

Nehemiah Nwankpah drove in from Meridian, MS.

“I had to force my way in the door. They almost didn’t let me come in so I had to sell myself,” he said.

He said it was worth it for him to take a shot at the open positions.

“I got laid off in May so I’ve been unemployed since May,” he said. “So, I came down here in hopes to get lucky really.”

There is another hiring event planned for August 15 with more likely each quarter.
