Local Shelter Animals Airlifted to New Futures in Pacific Northwest

More than 100 animals from overcrowded North Texas shelters were given a second chance at finding new forever homes.

About 125 at-risk shelter animals were loaded into a plane at Fort Worth's Meacham Airport before dawn. They'll eventually be taken in by less crowded shelters in the Pacific Northwest.

The flight was organized by Freekibble, which donates meals to shelter animals, and Wings of Rescue, a charity that flies homeless pets to no-kill shelters.

The groups raised more than $7,000 to help pay for flights from Texas, Arizona and California.
