Sandy Dolan, a Fort Worth stay-at-home mom and a student, carries powerful motivation into her appearance on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.”
Her brother died of obesity-related heart failure just five days after auditioning in Dallas for the show. Rather than sue the producers — which is news right there in this litigous culture — she wants to make a positive out of a tragedy.
She also wants to live a more healthful, active life than available to her at 259 pounds. She gained the weight, she said, from living a sedentary lifestyle in our fast-food society.
She didn’t reveal her desired target weight but said she wants to be able to run down her kids, ski and hike rather then sit on a sightseeing tour bus, and wear whatever she damn well pleases. That is not a verbatim quote.
This season of “The Biggest Loser,” season 10, debuts Tuesday night with the theme of paying it forward. Just as Dolan wants to honor her brother, another contestant, Adam Hurtado, wants to honor his mom who died at age 51 from obesity-related heart failure, and Aaron Thompkins, who grew up a child of an alcoholic.
Call it a season of paybacks are healthy.
