Lawmakers Tackle Distracted Driving, Again

On Tuesday morning, lawmakers in Austin will discuss several bills dealing with distracted driving and texting while driving.

The Texas House of Representatives Transportation Committee will hear four bills that cover everything from a ban on using a wireless communication device on school property while driving to a ban on sending sending emails or updating social media while driving.

A statewide distracted driving ban was passed in 2011, but Gov. Rick Perry vetoed the measure.

Perry called the measure "government micromanagement." In a statement, Perry's office said the Governor favors more information and education to convince drivers not to text and drive.
