Kyle Residents Pay Tribute to Slain Police Employee

A caravan of vehicles of the victim's family and law enforcement officials escorted the body

Residents of the Central Texas town of Kyle were among those gathered to honor a slain member of the police department as a caravan of vehicles including her family and law enforcement officials escorted her body to San Antonio.

The body of 29-year-old Samantha Dean, who was pregnant, was taken Saturday from Lockhart, where her autopsy was performed, to San Antonio, where her family lives.

Fire department vehicles were placed on overpasses as the caravan came into Kyle. The Austin American-Statesman reports that dozens of residents gathered at an overpass to stand with fire personnel as the caravan went through the city where Dean had worked as a victim services coordinator.

Dean, who lived in Austin, was found fatally shot in a Bastrop parking lot Wednesday.
