Juvenile Offender Dies After Unresponsive at Edinburg Facility

The juvenile was transported to a hospital Friday night, but could not be revived

Administrators say a juvenile in custody has died after being found unresponsive at a youth offender facility in South Texas.

A Texas Juvenile Justice Department statement Saturday did not immediately release the name, gender or age of the person who died, saying the parents are being notified.

Executive director Camille Cain says the Office of Inspector General would investigate. Officials didn't immediately provide a manner or cause of death of the youth assigned to the Evins Regional Juvenile Center in Edinburg.

Cain says the juvenile was discovered unresponsive Friday night and was transported by ambulance to a hospital, but could not be revived.
