Judge Overrules Heir in Dallas DA Contempt Case

A federal judge has ruled against an oil heir seeking not to pay more than $20 million to his former attorneys, in a complex dispute that temporarily ensnared the Dallas County district attorney.

Judge Sam Lindsay on Thursday denied a motion by Al Hill III, a great-grandson of oil titan H.L. Hunt. Hill is fighting a $22 million judgment won by his former attorneys in a settlement fight with his father.

Hill accused one ex-attorney, Lisa Blue, of getting District Attorney Craig Watkins to indict him for mortgage fraud. Watkins was then briefly held in contempt of court when he refused to testify, but another judge cleared him. The FBI has investigated the incident, though no charges have been filed.

A spokesman for Hill's attorneys did not immediately return messages.
