The Houston judge presiding over the capital murder case of a deputy's slaying has recused herself.
Court records show the case against Shannon Miles in the slaying of Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth has been moved from the court of state District Judge Denise Collins to that of state District Judge Susan Brown, the county's chief administrative judge. No reason was given.
Goforth was shot fatally at a suburban Houston gas station the night of Aug. 28. If convicted, Miles could get the death penalty.
Previously, a sheriff's detective involved in the Miles investigation was relieved of duty pending further investigation after prosecutors said he acknowledged having "consensual sexual conduct" with a witness in that case.
