Dallas was the first stop on a 14 city tour where radio host Tom Joyner will be asking his listeners to take this census seriously.
Census forms started showing up in DFW-area mailboxes around March 15, with instructions to return them by April 1.
The national average return rate is about 46 percent, but North Texas is lagging behind. Only 39 percent of people in Dallas County have returned their forms. Collin, Denton, and Tarrant counties fare only a smidge better at 40 percent return rate.
Joyner's event included official census workers on site to take the surveys directly. He heads to Houston on Wednesday to continue the tour.
