The summer break does not have to be a vacation from learning. That’s why we are inviting you to join NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 as we team up with Reading Partners North Texas to kick-off Reading With You/Leyendo Contigo.
This nine-week reading initiative encourages elementary-aged kids to read at least one book a week throughout the summer to help combat summer learning loss, often referred to as the "summer slide."
Wake up to Something Good every Tuesday starting June 18. Watch NBC 5 Today at 6:00 a.m. and NBC 5 First at Four at 4:00 p.m. as Anchor/Reporter Laura Harris and Education Reporter Wayne Carter feature a weekly on-air segment with local stories, visit local reading programs, libraries and community organizations and bring interactive reading sessions to kids in grades K-5. Telemundo 39’s Anchor/Reporter Andrea Aguirre and Consumer Investigative Reporter Martha Minjarez will also be live on Noticiero Telemundo 39 at 4:00 p.m.
NBC 5, Telemundo 39 and Reading Partners North Texas are working hard to mitigate summer slide for students this summer break. The goal is to keep the little ones sharp while they are out of school and to make reading enjoyable.
Join the fun and pick a book from the recommended reading list below by grade level. All the books are in English and Spanish.
