Job Fair Helps Veterans Return to Work

Military veterans looking to return to the workforce had the opportunity to talk with many employers when the Hiring Our Heroes Fort Worth job fair kicked off at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The job fair had nearly 80 employers on hand at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth to offer veteran and their spouses new opportunities. Some of the employers at the job fair included Walmart, UPS, Citigroup and several local police departments.

"Itโ€™s free for employers, which most job fairs aren't," U.S. Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman Julie Russell said. "So it's a one-of-a-kind free event for all participants."

Along with offering jobs, the Hiring Our Heroes job fair also provided free workshops for participants.

"We have workshops for both employers and for the job seekers,โ€ Russell explained. โ€œFor the employers, the best practices in hiring a service member or their spouse, and for the job seekers how to transition their skills into the civilian world."

There have already been 800 Hiring Our Heroes job fairs across the country. They expect more than 200 veterans and their spouses to attend Wednesdayโ€™s job fair before it ends at 1 p.m.

For those who missed this one, they plan to be back in the DFW area in February.
