It happened just after noon on westbound Texas State Highway 183 near North Belt Line Road in front of Irving Mall.

The officer had just pulled over a car on the shoulder of S.H. 183 for speeding when another vehicle struck the officer's motorcycle and kept going, police said.

The officer was not on the motorcycle when it was hit, and he dove away from the scene to avoid injury.

"He had just enough time to tuck and roll and jump out of the way," said Irving Police spokesman Ofc. James McLellan.

After the crash, police said the driver who was initially pulled over took off to chase the vehicle that hit the officer's motorcycle.

The driver, identified by police as 23-year-old Jordan Daniel Dunn, was eventually caught and is in custody.

Dunn was sending text messages on his phone at the time of the crash, police said.

Dunn faces a charge of deadly conduct, a Class A misdemeanor, and was booked into the Irving Jail.

Police said Dunn was released Tuesday evening on a $500 bond.

On Wednesday, Irving police released video from the motorcycle's dash camera video of the hit and run crash.
