Irving Police Make Arrest in Pair of Robberies Outside Walmart

Irving police say they have identified and charged a suspect in connection with three similar robberies at the beginning of November.

NBC 5 first reported Irving police believed one man might be connected to two different robberies at the same Walmart parking lot along Texas 183.

Basilio Coleman was leaving work at Walmart when a man approached him and ordered him to drive to an ATM to withdrawal money from his account.

Coleman pulled into a Chevron station nearby and jumped out of his truck. The man then ran away.

Irving police say as a result of NBC 5's story and the airing of surveillance images of the man, officers arrested 20-year-old Tyler Wayne Benavidez.

Police said they believed he was also responsible for a robbery in the 3700 block of Conflans Road.

Detectives recovered evidence linking Benavidez to the offenses, according to Irving police.

As of this writing, Benavidez was in the Dallas County Jail on a charge of robbery with bond set at $50,000 and according to Irving police, two additional robbery charges are pending.
