Ian McCaw Is Out As Baylor Athletic Director

Many questioned why Baylor University athletic director Ian McCaw was not terminated along with head football coach Art Briles last week. Monday, McCaw resigned his post just hours after Baylor announced Jim Grobe would take over the football program as acting head coach.

Baylor sent out a statement for McCaw:

“After much reflection and prayer, I have decided that a change in athletics department leadership is in Baylor University’s best interest in order to promote the unity, healing and restoration that must occur in order to move forward. I have always sought to put the University’s needs ahead of my own. My time at Baylor has been an incredible journey filled with some of the most remarkable people I have ever known. I am grateful to Baylor Nation for its support and dedication, and to all who have done so much to advance the athletics program.”

It was a move that had to happen. McCaw was the leader of an athletic department that finds itself in a scandal. New leadership is needed down in Waco.

McCaw has been AD since 2003, hired after a scandal involving the men's basketball program led to the resignation of then-athletic director Tom Stanton.
