Gov. Rick Perry requested $300 million in federal money to get temporary housing for victims of Hurricane Ike.
On Friday, Perry announced details of the requested from his November 26 letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Perry says Ike, which hit on September 13, destroyed or flooded about 100,000 homes and left half a million homeless in Southeast Texas.
He says Texans need and deserve a safe place to live while recovering from what the governor calls "this devastating storm."
The money would speed up the creation of a program for people to acquire temporary housing.
