The latest version of our app allows you to select the categories of news alerts you want to get from NBC DFW on your device. We’ve included topics that matter most to you, based on your feedback, and you can find all the alerts in one place.
To personalize your notifications, first, check "Allow Notifications” when you download the new app.
If you already have the app, you can customize them at any time. Click News, select the menu icon with the magnifying glass in the top right corner. Select Customize Alerts in the bottom navigation.
If you see a blue tab next to a category that means you will receive push alerts for that subject.

Here is an explanation of the alerts offered:
News alerts will keep you updated on the latest and most urgent stories of the day in Dallas-Fort Worth, the U.S, and the World.
Traffic alerts will keep you in the know about major road closures, crashes and traffic troubles across Dallas-Fort Worth.
Local
The latest news from around North Texas.
Sports alerts will bring you everything from the world of sports – look for all the news about the Cowboys, Rangers, Stars or Mavericks.
Consumer alerts will bring you great stories from the NBC 5 Responds team to the latest recalls and scam alerts.
Health alerts will bring you everything from flu and West Nile updates to the latest health breakthroughs.
What’s on NBC 5 will include stories that appear in our newscasts as well as updates on programming changes – if 'Days of Our Lives' is pre-empted and will air overnight, you’ll find out here!
Offbeat will bring you lighter, wacky and 'totally Texas' news.
Olympics will include the latest information during the Summer and Winter Olympics.
Entertainment will bring you news from the world of local entertainment and Hollywood.
Texas News will update you on news from around the Lone Star State.
Something Good will include stories that brighten your day and remind you all the news is not bad.
Weather Experts gives you messages from our weather team, including the daily forecast information and alerts when live coverage is carried on digital.
To control the other weather alerts, please click the back arrow and select App Settings and choose "Weather Location Alerts" or while in the weather section of the app click the + sign next to the location under the radar.
Severe Weather Alerts deliver alerts issued by the National Weather Service (such as tornado warnings).
Lighting Alerts are alerts about lightning near you (beneficial for people with swimming pools or golfers).
Precipitation Alerts are the alerts about rain near the location(s) you selected.
You'll also notice there's a red bubble on the NBC DFW app logo on your phone. You can control that too, but that's controlled by your phone.
On your phone go to Settings, go to Notifications, scroll down to NBC 5 DFW, you can turn off Badges and you'll no longer have the red bubble.
