Houston's Bush, Hobby Airports Expected to Remain Closed Until at Least Wednesday

Hobby may reopen Wednesday, Bush Thursday, FAA says

Houston's two major airports, Bush and Hobby, are expected to remain closed until at least Wednesday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Houston's William P Hobby Airport shut down at 2:55 a.m. Sunday due to flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Several hours later, high water shut down the George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 10:24 a.m.

"Operations are still stopped until further notice. We are doing everything we can to resume operations once it's safe to do so," Bush airport officials tweeted Monday morning. Officials at Hobby tweeted Monday that high water still covered the inbound and outbound feeder roads at both airports.

The FAA said Monday Hobby is expected to reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday and Bush at noon Thursday, though the airports have not said for sure when flights would resume.

Five other coastal airports were also closed due to Hurricane Harvey -- most will reopen Wednesday or Thursday, the FAA said.
