Houston Officer Responding to Domestic Call Kills Gunman

Houston police say an officer fatally shot an armed man who earlier fired a pistol in a neighborhood.

Police on Tuesday identified the suspect as 35-year-old Frederick Roy.

Officer J. Vargas was not hurt in Monday afternoon's incident.

Witnesses told police that Roy was behaving in an erratic manner and fired a gun while outside his mother's home. Relatives contacted police after Roy kicked in the front door.

Vargas was nearby in his patrol car and responded to the domestic disturbance call.

Police said Roy yanked up his shirt, pulled a revolver from his waistband and pointed the weapon at the officer. The men struggled and Vargas discharged his police gun.

Roy was shot and died at the scene. His revolver was recovered.
