Houston police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as a government assistance worker after storms and scammed flood victims.
Police say 25-year-old Derron L. Skinner was arrested Thursday on a forgery charge. He's free on $50,000 bond.
One victim told police that a friend of hers claimed to know a Federal Emergency Management Agency worker.
Houston police say Skinner pretended to be with FEMA, received claim information from some victims and told them to meet him at their banks. Police say Skinner gave the victims checks for deposit via ATM.
Police say Skinner the next day met the victims again at their banks. The individuals withdrew significant amounts of money for alleged claim processing fees.
The checks from Skinner bounced.
Court records don't list an attorney for him.
