Houston-Area Police Officer Killed in 2-Vehicle Wreck

An officer in Pearland died after his patrol car was struck by another car

A Houston-area police officer has died after his patrol car was struck by another vehicle as he responded to a call.

Pearland police say Officer Endy Ekpanya died Sunday at a hospital where he was transported following the accident.

A Pearland police statement says the driver of the second vehicle was transported to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Her name wasn't immediately released.

Authorities say Ekpanya, who joined the Pearland Police Department in 2015, was dispatched on a non-emergency call before dawn Sunday when his patrol car was hit. Officials say the second vehicle crossed over the middle lanes and struck the patrol vehicle.

Further details weren't immediately released.

Pearland is 10 miles south of Houston.
