High winds and dry conditions in North Texas are fueling concerns over the possibilities of dangerous fires.
The National Weather Service put most of North Texas under a Wind Advisory until 1 p.m. Wednesday and expects gusts of up to 45 mph.
But even before the winds picked up, firefighters were looking at dangerously dry brush that could quickly catch fire.
A large brush fire burned 300 acres of Army Corps property in Trophy Club on Tuesday. That blaze threatened a neighborhood of newly constructed homes and fire crews worried about the addition of high winds to the situation.
“It's going to get worse as the temperature drops and the wind changes direction," Commander Lee Delk, with the Trophy Club Fire Department, said on Tuesday. “So it’s going to get a lot worse, so we’re trying to get it out as quick as we can."
The challenge for firefighters on Wednesday is similar; fire crews need to contain fires quickly and work defensively to protect blazes from spreading.
