Artist Hides Painted Rocks, Encourages Family Involvement

It was the unwanted treat in Charlie Brown's Halloween bag, but a Dallas artist hopes kids will be inspired by rocks this October.

Artist Carrie Sharp spends her days painting rocks and hiding them around east Dallas.

There's no catch or underlying motive. Sharp just wanted to created something fun and free for kids in her neighborhood to do.

"I love my community," she said. "I go around and I see all of these kids in the community and it's overwhelming how all the parents are so involved, so I thought this is a way, a really exciting way, to get everybody involved."

Sharp's rocks contain incredible detail.

Some are painted with Halloween scenes while others contain different colors and patterns. The most coveted rocks contained scenes from Charlie Brown's "It's the Great Pumpkin."

Each day Sharp posts on a community Facebook page indicating which parks she's hiding the rocks and parents and kids are invited to come out that night and start searching.

Sharp said she hopes to continue this through the month and inspire kids to paint their own rocks and hide them in their neighborhood for others to find.
