Big Tex is hiring!

The State Fair of Texas is hiring for thousands of seasonal positions. Applications are available online for different departments. This year, there will be more than 7,000 seasonal jobs with around 2,200 people employed directly by the State Fair of Texas.

"The fair provides a wonderful means of entertainment for so many people and I'm glad to see it come," local church member Helen Beaujour said.

Beaujour attends Mt. Olive Lutheran Church on Martin Luther King Boulevard just blocks from Fair Park. She volunteers to help people in the community.

"Today we are doing our Blessing Bag Ministry at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church," Beaujor said.

The church gives food to about 500 people a week. With such a need in the area, she's glad to hear the State Fair of Texas is working to hire people from the community.

"To have something in this community where perhaps they could walk to the job is really wonderful to hear," Beaujour said.

In this tough hiring market, State Fair of Texas organizers said it could be challenging.

"It's no secret that it's hard to find people to employ right now,” said Karissa Kondoianis, State Fair of Texas Senior Vice President of Public Relations. “There are ‘We're Hiring’ signs all over Dallas. Our hope and what is great for the State Fair of Texas is we have a base of employees that return to the fair every single year."

This year, the starting wage is $15.21 per hour, which is 19% more than last year’s $12.38.

They are hiring for coupon sales, creative arts, games, gates, guest services, livestock, maintenance and plumbing.

Fair organizers are also seeking people in the surrounding communities to apply.

"Sending postcards out,” Kondoianis said. “Getting involved with community organizations even more than we have in the past of how we can spread the word about the opportunities here at the State Fair of Texas. For some, it's just an easy walk to come to work every day, and that would be a great thing to have for the community."

As the annual event is a collection of small businesses, the remaining seasonal positions are offered by our business partners, including contractors, food and beverage concessionaires, ride and games operators, vendors, clean team and security.

The State Fair of Texas has also partnered with local organizations to open computer facilities around town so people can have access to the internet to apply.

The help people get with applications and training goes beyond the state fair.

"It not only helps them get a job at the State Fair of Texas, but it helps them learn tools that they can use so that they can get long-term employment as well,” Kondoianis said.
