When it comes to getting ready for the big day, nothing takes center stage quite like the ring on a girl’s left hand.
But now, instead of the traditional phone calls to loved ones announcing your happy news, many brides-to-be are heading to the doctor first.
According to some doctors, hand-lifts are the new trend before taking a selfie and posting it to social media with hashtags like #engaged or #imgettingmarried!
Some women want that picture to be close to perfect as possible.
“Usually this is done in people with aged hands, but we’re seeing more and more trend of younger people wanting to do this,” said Dr. Bardia Amirlak of UT Southwestern in Dallas.
Amirlak, who specializes in plastic surgery, said some women feel their hands are too plump, others too thin and some are looking for vein treatment.
Many of this can be fixed, he said, by fillers or fat injections, laser treatment and the hand-lift.

“Hand lift is when you actually try to tighten the skin around the hand by a small incision in the approximate part of the hand where it connects to the skin and pulls the skin,” Amirlak said.
Amirlak said he has no problem helping women who actually show signs of aging.
But for several younger women, he has no problem telling them no.
“If they tell me that, I really have to assess their hands to see if they really need it. Do they have signs of aging?", said Amirlak.
Not just because they want different hands,” he said.
“If you want to show off your hand with photographs and wedding rings, I think we all know that can be done with a photoshop. We all know plastic surgery, although it’s becoming more and more accepted, it should not be used as a fad.”
