Hamilton Family Awarded Over $16M in Wrongful Death Lawsuit

A jury has awarded more than $16 million to a Hamilton family in a wrongful death lawsuit that accused a nursing home company of letting an employee drive home drunk.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday that Senior Living Properties owns Hamilton Healthcare Center, where Alisa Prueitt worked.

Court documents state Prueitt was sent home from work for being "unfocused" in 2013. Authorities say Prueitt had a blood-alcohol level of 0.40 when she crashed her vehicle into Sam Graham's vehicle, killing him and injuring his wife and two children.

A driver is considered intoxicated at 0.08. Prueitt was sentenced to 28 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

The jury gave $16.7 million to Graham's family, including $5 million in punitive damages.
