Gunman Fatally Shot as Chase Ends in Tomball

A fleeing armed man has been fatally shot by officers as a Houston-area chase ended in Tomball.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the pursuit began Tuesday night following a traffic stop in neighboring Montgomery County.

Officers had received calls about an armed motorist waving the gun out of the window and pointing the weapon at passing vehicles. Authorities later determined the suspect had a felony warrant out of Grimes County.

Officials say suspect stopped his truck near a relative's home, aimed the weapon at his own head and then pointed the gun at officers.

The suspect refused law enforcement commands to drop the gun. Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Tom Gilliland says officers feared for their own safety and opened fire, killing the man.

Details weren't immediately available on the warrant.
