Join the Grapevine Citywide Garage Sale

City collects display fees, sellers collect sales revenue, buyers collect junk

Perhaps the biggest garage sale in North Texas takes place in Grapevine next month, but sellers need to reserve their places at the public trough, well, the sooner the better.

The sixth annual Grapevine Parks and Recreation Department Citywide Garage Sale -- that’s the official name -- probably -- takes place from 7-11 a.m., Sept. 25, at Nash Rink. It’s open to sellers from anywhere, not just Grapevine residents, and city officials expect about 50 vendors to pony up the $40-ish fee — call David Mote at 817-410-3454 to get an exact amount — to display their wares.

That forty bucks gets sellers a 10-foot-by10-foot space, but no tables or chairs. The goods must be “non-commercial,” which means not in its original packaging.

Michael, the nice man who answered the phone down at garage-sale central said the city would put out garage-sale-this-way signs but promised the markers would not be placed illegally on public rights of way.

Let’s hope not. Otherwise they could end up here.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He wonders why there are no food-related garage sales … half-eaten sandwiches, leftover pot roast, nachos in a go-box, that kind of thing.
