GoFundMe Becoming Popular for Child-Bearing Treatments

Raising a 2-year-old boy can be a wild ride, but for Fort Worth parents Alex and Jennifer Woods the journey began long before their son, Cody, was born.

"We spent several years trying treatments and surgeries and in-vitro fertilization," Jennifer said. "During IVF we just decided God was leading us to adopt."

Adopted at birth, Cody fills the Woods' home with love, but now the inquisitive toddler keeps asking for a sibling. So this time, his parents are turning to crowd-funding site GoFundMe to help cover the cost of their second adoption.

So far, they have raised $1,500.

"It's a new shock to me every day," Alex said. "I didn't realize people were going to be that generous."

According to statistics provided by GoFundMe, 242 people or couples mentioned fertility treatments or adoption as the catalyst for their GoFundMe site in 2012. Already in 2015, GoFundMe donations for adoption or fertility treatments have topped $3 million for nearly 1,500 families.

The Woods family said any concerns they had about asking people for money fade when they look at Cody.

"We think it's worth it to try and get our son a sibling sooner rather than later," Jennifer said. "We just can't wait to bring another member into our family."
