Authorities said a 4-year-old Houston-area girl has drowned in a swimming pool after she apparently wandered away from adults during a birthday party.
La Marque police said the death appears to have been accidental.
The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday identified the child as Stephanie Smith of Spring.
Officials said the girl apparently disappeared for about a half-hour Sunday night during the party for another child that drew as many as 40 guests. Her body was located at the bottom of the pool at the residence. The child was pronounced dead at a hospital.
