George W. Bush Presidential Library Recreates Christmas Exhibit From 2004 White House

Former first lady Laura Bush said she loves to share the experience of Christmas in the White House with residents

When you step foot into the holiday exhibit at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, you'll be immersed into the White House just as it was in winter of 2004.

Former first lady Laura Bush chose "A Season of Merriment and Melody" as the theme that year. More than a decade later, the same decorations placed throughout the White House have been brought back for DFW residents to enjoy.

The exhibit displays 12 vignettes that visually represent a classic Christmas carol. From "Frosty the Snowman" to "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," the exhibit captures the excitement of Christmas music.

Bush said she loves to recreate the iconic White House Christmas displays to share the joy of the holiday with Americans.

"These are the decorations from 2004," she said. "They belong to the people of the United States and they’re here in our archives."

The dazzling centerpiece of the exhibit is an 18-foot Christmas tree adorned in more than 350 miniature ornaments.

"This is how big the tree really was," Bush said. "It was this huge."

Along with sharing the joy, Bush said she loves the memories that she can experience again by bringing back the 2004 theme.

"It brings back a lot of happy memories for George and me to see them again," she said. "I hope people would love to come here and see it."

The new exhibit opens Thursday, Nov. 17, and runs through Jan. 8. Doors are open from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
