Geek Squad Helps in Child Porn Bust

Dallas man pleads guilty after repairman finds child porn on his computer

A Dallas man pleaded guilty Tuesday to downloading child pornography after the Geek Squad found it on his home computer and called police, prosecutors said.

Matthew Ruff, 29, a biomedical engineer, faces six to eight years in prison, according to a plea agreement.

According to court documents, Ruff called the Geek Squad from Best Buy to fix his home computer in June 2008.

The repairman noticed what appeared to be numerous pornographic videos on the computer and called Dallas police. Investigators then obtained a search warrant and seized two computers and storage devices from Ruff’s home on Stefani Drive, court documents said.

An FBI examination revealed 31 videos of child pornography, including one file titled, “GOOD! 2yo girl getting raped during diaper change,” prosecutors said.

Ruff was released after his guilty plea. The judge ordered him to stay away from children without supervision. His sentencing date has not been set.

His attorney, Jim Burnham, did not return a call seeking comment.
