Two people were arrested Friday morning following a high-speed chase involving a stolen rental car, Garland police say.
Officials said an officer ran the license plate on a white Toyota Camry and learned the vehicle had been reported stolen. The officer tried to pull the driver over near Northwest Highway and LBJ Freeway, but the driver refused.
Nearly an hour later, after leading police through Downtown Dallas and hitting speeds of 100 mph on Interstate 20, the driver stopped and exited the vehicle at about 9 a.m. A male passenger in the back seat exited the vehicle moments later.
The driver was identified by police as 32-year-old Vanessa Hummel, of Carrollton. Hummel was arrested and charged with evading arrest and theft of a motor vehicle.
Hummel's passenger, 26-year-old Fernando Aguilar, of Garland, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
Inside the vehicle, investigators found numerous documents and credit cards that did not belong to the occupants.
The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working to determine whether the occupants have been involved in other crimes, police said.
