Galveston Reviewing Beach Rules After Complaints

Galveston officials are taking a look at policies covering closing of Gulf of Mexico beaches after some visitors complained police using loudspeakers and sirens ordered them to leave the beaches and a pavilion over the Memorial Day weekend.

Police say they were just following the direction of the Galveston parks board when vehicles were ordered out of paid parking areas at the end of the day.

Parks Board Executive Director Kelly de Schaun tells The Galveston County Daily News visitors can use parks and walk the beach but cars aren't allowed to park on the beaches overnight because of public safety reasons.

Park board officials have said large crowds on the beaches in the evenings without security have caused problems in the past like the burning of lifeguard stands.
