A Galveston leader wants more oversight of a board that approved helicopter rides from a beach near some condominiums.
The Galveston County Daily News reports City Councilman Ralph McMorris raised noise concerns.
McMorris said Tuesday he wants the council to have final approval of leases reached by the Galveston Park Board of Trustees.
The councilman says he's received complaints from Emerald Condominiums residents about noise from helicopter rides, which began July Fourth weekend. The Emerald is about 1,000 feet from the landing pad at Stewart Beach.
Park board officials say they considered nearby residents and had a letter from those nearest the site offering no objections.
Trustees on June 10 approved a one-year deal with Oasis Beach Services. The chopper rides operate from an area zoned for commercial business.
