2 Walking in Roadway Killed by SUV: Fort Worth Police

SUV driver not expected to face charges

Fort Worth police said two pedestrians walking in the road were killed early Monday morning when they were hit by an SUV.

A man and woman, later identified as 22-year-old Jimmy Greer and 18-year-old Haley Bentley, were walking on the 5800 block of North Main Street just after midnight when they were hit, authorities said.

The couple were pronounced dead at the scene.

Greer's family told NBC 5 Monday that he was from a tight-knit family and was the father to a 3-year-old girl.

Police say an SUV fatally struck two pedestrians who were walking in the right lane of Main Street in Fort Worth Monday morning.

“We rolled together like a pack.  Four older boys.  Everybody knew you couldn’t separate us,” said Greer's brother Damon.

Police said they found Greer's truck close by but that so far investigators have not determined if his truck was disabled or why the couple was walking in the roadway.

After the collision, the SUV driver immediately pulled over to help. Police said there are no charges pending against the driver.

A vigil will be held at 8 p.m. at the site of the crash.

NBC 5's Julie Fine contributed to this report.
