From 11 Members to 13,000, First Baptist Dallas Celebrates 150 Years Serving as ‘A Light for a Lost World'

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott attended the church's service Sunday

As First Baptist Dallas celebrates its 150th anniversary, senior pastor Robert Jeffress' focus is on carrying the church's traditions forward.

His sermon Sunday traced the congregation's growth from three men and eight women in 1868 to a thriving community of 13,000 with a $135 million campus in downtown Dallas.

Gov. Greg Abbott, who delivered the offertory prayer at the day's second service, shared his official recognition of the church's anniversary describing First Baptist Dallas as "an example to all Texans of God's faithfulness."
